(Sometimes combining multiple modalities together.)
Types of Massage Modalities:
Swedish Relaxation
This is the most common type of massage therapy in the United States. It is also known as Swedish massage or simple massage therapy.
I use long smooth strokes, kneading, and circular movements on superficial layers of muscle using massage lotion or oil.
Swedish massage therapy can be very gentle and relaxing. If you've never had massage before, this is a good one to try first.
Deep Tissue
Deep tissue massage targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. I use slower strokes or friction techniques across the grain of the muscle.
Deep tissue massage is used for chronically tight or painful muscles, repetitive strain, postural problems, or recovery from injury. People might feel sore for one to two days after deep tissue massage.
Sports/Stretching
Sports massage is specifically designed for people who are involved in physical activity. But you don't have to be a professional athlete to have one-it's also used by people who are active and work out often. The focus isn't on relaxation but on preventing and treating injury and enhancing athletic performance.
A combination of techniques are used. The strokes are generally faster than Swedish massage. Facilitated stretching is a common technique.
Aromatherapy
While receiving a massage an addition of one or more scented plant oils called essential oils to address specific needs.
I can select oils that are relaxing, energizing, stress-reducing, balancing, etc. One of the most common essential oils used in aromatherapy massage is lavender.
Aromatherapy massage is particularly suited to stress-related conditions or conditions with an emotional component.
Pre-natal
Also called prenatal massage, pregnancy massage is becoming increasingly popular with expectant mothers. I know the proper way to position and support the woman's body during the massage, and how to modify techniques.
Pregnancy massage is used to reduce stress, decrease swelling, relieve aches and pains, and reduce anxiety and depression. The massage is customized to a woman's individual needs.
Infant
Daily infant massage is a great way to bond with baby. What's more, researchers are finding that massage may promote better sleeping, relieve colic, and perhaps even enhance an infant's immune system, motor skills, and intellectual development.
Reflexology
Although reflexology is sometimes called foot massage, it is more than simple foot massage. Reflexology involves applying pressure to certain points on the foot that correspond to organs and systems in the body. Reflexology is very relaxing, especially for people who stand on their feet all day or just have tired, achy feet.
Energy Work and Chakra Balancing
Energy work can reduce stress and help you gain a better understanding of your inner self. Techniques of energy work are designed to balance the energy of the body, including physical, emotional, mental and spiritual imbalances. They can be used as a form of natural healing as they can reduce pain and prevent any future pain. This is because our bodies have an amazing ability to heal themselves. Once the person can connect with their body physically and mentally, their body will guide them to the appropriate treatment.
When we are stressed, our bodies restrict energy flow or suppress bad energy deep within the body. This leads to stress and anxiety, as well as physical manifestations of the bad energy in the form of pain or illness. If we can cleanse the body of its bad energy reserves and reinforce the energy balance once again, we can lead a happier, peaceful life with less stress and the ability to recover from emotional trauma. Energy work becomes aware of the power of our emotions and feelings.
Trigger point therapy
Trigger points or trigger sites are described as hyperirritable spots in skeletal muscle that are associated with palpable nodules in taut bands of muscle fibers. I believe that palpable nodules are small contraction knots, and a common cause of pain. Compression of a trigger point may elicit local tenderness, referred pain, or local twitch response. The local twitch response is not the same as a muscle spasm.. This is because a muscle spasm refers to the entire muscle contracting whereas the local twitch response also refers to the entire muscle but only involves a small twitch, no contraction.
Hot Stones (must know 24 hours in advance for this massage)
Heated, smooth stones are placed on certain points on the body to warm and loosen tight muscles and balance energy centers in the body.
I may also hold stones and apply gentle pressure with them. The warmth is comforting. Hot stone massage is good for people who have muscle tension but prefer lighter massage.
Raindrop
The Raindrop Technique is a method of using Vita Flex, reflexology, massage techniques, etc., and essential oils applied on various locations of the body to bring it structural and electrical alignment. It is designed to bring balance to the body with its relaxing and mild application. It will help align the energy centers of the body and release them if blocked, without using hard pressure or trying to force the body to change, which should never be done.
Infrared Sauna
for natural healing and prevention you may use the ability of the infrared light to penetrate tissue to produce a host of anti-aging benefits. This may be your key to wellness goals to help jumpstart yourself back into balance.
